The Irish threatened in the sixth when a single, a walk and a fly out placed a pair of runners in scoring position, but reliever Danielle Watson got a fly out to Butler in left field to end the inning. In the seventh, a leadoff hit by Ali Wester brought the tying run to the plate, but back-to-back fielder’s choices prevented a runner from getting into scoring positon and a groundout to Maddy Newman at second secured the win. Caitlin Ferguson had two hits, scored twice and a registered pair of stolen bases and Kyra Snyder collected two RBIs to help lead the Cardinals at the plate. Megan Hensley (8-1) notched the win and Danielle Watson picked up her first save of the season. Previewcenter_img Snyder’s two-run single sparked a three-run fourth as the Cards extended their lead to 4-0. Hensley got the inning started with a walk and was lifted for pinch runner Jordyn Wolfe, who took second on Rebecca Chung’s sacrifice bunt. Ferguson reached safely on an infield hit to put runners on the corners and proceeded to steal second. Snyder’s hit plated both runners and she would eventually score on a wild pitch. The Cardinals (20-10, 3-3 ACC) will return to action on Tuesday when they play host to No. 20/22 Indiana at 5 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium. Hensley picked up her team-best eighth win of the season after giving up three earned runs on five hits and striking out two in 5.1 innings. She also registered one of Louisville’s eight hits in the game. The Cards tallied six stolen bases in the contest with Butler registering career-high three stolen bases, Ferguson had two and Melton swiped her team-best 15th of the season. Matchup History The Cards pushed their lead back to two runs in the sixth. Freshman Charley Butler delivered a two-out single, stole second and third and scored on junior Celene Funke’s base hit, bringing the score to 5-3.  Louisville struck first with a run in the second inning. Ferguson led off the frame with a single, stole second and crossed the plate on senior Madison Cousineau’s double to give the Cards a 1-0 lead.
