Ghana’s Majeed Ashimeru became winner of a domestic double after helping RB Salzburg beat TSV Hartberg 3-0 in the 2019/20 Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday.The midfielder played 20 minutes of the game which had Andre Ramalho, Hwang Hee-chan and Patson Daka scoring the goals for Salzburg.The results of title rivals LASK Linz who were surprisingly beaten 1-0 at home by Wolfsberger handed RB Salzburg an unassailable 11-point lead and in effect making them official league champions with two games to end the season.LASK had been top of the table before the club was docked six points and fined 75,000 euros ($83,150) last month for breaking strict social distancing rules in training. The sanction was later reduced to four points on appeal.RB Salzburg are now Austrian Bundesliga champions for seven straight seasons. They also won the Austrian Cup in May after a 5-0 rout of Lustenau.Austria’s league restarted earlier this month after being suspended due to COVID-19 lockdown in the county.The final matches of the 2019/20 season are due to be played next weekend. The matches are however still being played to empty stadiums as restrictions on large public gatherings remain in force.
IOWA FALLS – The No. 2 NIACC wrestling team topped No. 5 Ellsworth 24-19 in its season-opening dual on Wednesday in the Ellsworth gym.NIACC picked up wins from Clarance Lee-Green (125), Brock Luthens (133), Hunter Luke (141), Tony Mendoza (149), Christian Minto (174) and Holton Truax (197).Luthens, who is ranked third, took a 6-5 decision from top-ranked Hector Candelaria, who was the national runner-up at 133 pounds in 2019.Luthens now owns a 2-1 record against Candelaria. Luthens nipped Candelaria 8-7 in last season’s dual meet and Candelaria edged Luthens 3-1 at the NJCAA Region XI tournament.At 141, Luke, who is ranked third, pinned Ellsworth’s Jackson Wenberg in six minutes, 33 seconds.At 149 pounds, Mendoza, who placed fifth at nationals a year ago and is ranked second, improved his career record to 24-8 with a pin of the Panthers’ AJ Mills in 2:34.NIACC returns to action Nov. 16 at the Luther College Open. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have claimed safety Andrew Sendejo off waivers from Philadelphia to bring back a longtime piece of their secondary. They made the move the day after Sendejo was cut by the Eagles, for whom he played in all nine games. He had an interception against the Vikings on Oct. 13. Sendejo spent eight seasons with the Vikings, first cracking the starting lineup in 2013 and accumulating 59 starts. The 32-year-old will provide depth behind starters Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris.
