Liberia Concludes Public Health Systems Preparedness Simulation Exercise

first_imgAuthorities at the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and partners on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, concluded a 3-day National Public Health preparedness Simulation exercise intended to assess the country’s capacity in health emergency preparedness and response.According to a release, the exercise started on Monday, March 10, 2019 in Bong, Lofa and Nimba counties to test Liberia’s capacity in case of a ‘real Ebola’ situation. It also tested systems preparedness and coordination among the three counties with the intention to demonstrate interoperability and coordination among participating Public Health Emergency Operations Centers (PHEOCs), and response partners when managing a global public health emergency.“Public health simulation is a requirement by the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and recommendations from the 2016 Joint Extended Evaluation,” the release has said.Although several gaps and challenges were identified, the exercise, according to the release, indicates that Liberia has made significant improvements in the past two years in its capacity to respond to disease outbreak. There is no case of Ebola in the country, however, the public is advised to continue reporting diseases as has been, and continue to observe all existing public health measures, including continue hand wash.Similar exercise was conducted in Margibi and Montserrado counties from November 30 to December 4, 2018, and is expected to extend to the remaining 13 counties.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
