UPFA Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa also tweeted saying there should not be discrimination between local and international schools for national exams.“Free education is essential in ensuring children receive the opportunities they deserve. There shouldn’t be a discrimination between local & international schools for national exams & if there are concerns they should be addressed without disrupting the children’s achievements,” he tweeted. United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardena has come under fire over comments he made on an Advanced Level (A/L) student.A student of an International School was among the students who got top marks at the last GCE A/L examination. At a press conference, Gunawardena had shown an image of the student appearing in a local newspaper and insisted that her performance could not be placed on par with students from Government schools. Gunawardena has been criticised on social media for his comments on the student. Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Mahela Jayawardena also expressed disappointment at the comments made by the former Education Minister.“Very disappointed with this comment.. Education is knowledge if it’s free or paid. We should always encourage our next generations achievements. Congratulations to all students but specially to the young girl who came 5th all island.
